Face Value 13 Cents | 1977 | Scott 1728

Issued in 1977 as part of the United States Bicentennial celebration, these stamps feature the Surrender of Burgoyne, by John Trumbull, a painting which currently hangs in the US Capitol. British General John Burgoyne surrendered to General Horatio Gates ten days after the Battle of Saratoga, which became a major turning point in the war for independence since it was an important precursor to France joining the war on the American side.

Interested in more history or Bicentennial stamps to pair with these for postage? Check out our other vintage stamp listings.  All our vintage stamps can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are unused with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
