Contributions of science and industry were commemorated on this 1983 US postage stamp. Featuring an abstract design reminiscent of pop art, this stamp was actually issued in Chicago on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Museum of Science and Industry, the largest science center in the Western hemisphere which opened during the Century of Progress Exposition in 1933. Stamp designer Saul Bass came up with this design as a way to merge conceptions of industry from the Industrial Revolution with ideas of modern technology.

Interested in more science/industry stamps to pair with these for postage? Check out our other vintage stamp listings, all of which can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are mint with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
