Debuting in 1980 with TV and print ads, McGruff the Crime Dog was featured on this 1984 stamp. Encouraging us to take a bite out of crime, the popular bloodhound was the mascot of a successful social campaign to educate people how to be safe that continues today. In 2008, 9 out of 10 people still recognized McGruff’s character.
