Face Value 15 Cents | 1980 | Scott 1832

The first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize, for her novel The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton became famous for her writing portraying the lives of New York’s aristocracy. When in Paris during World War I, she supported the French war effort and opened a workroom for unemployed women, feeding them and paying them to work in a sewing business. She set up the American Hostels for Refugees as war refugees poured into Paris, working tirelessly on behalf of those displaced by the war. Celebrate Women’s History Month using this stamp honoring one of America’s greatest writers and recipient of France’s Legion of Honor.

All our vintage stamp listings can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are unused with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
