Face Value 13 Cents | 1976 | Scott 1699
Born in East Orange, New Jersey, Clara Maass became the head nurse at Newark German Hospital in 1898. During the Spanish-American War, she volunteered as a nurse for the US Army. After her service, she volunteered to serve as a patient in experiments to study yellow fever, which ultimately led to her death from the disease in 1901. On the 100th anniversary of her birth in 1976, she was honored on this US postage stamp. Your mail recipients will take note of this bold, large-size stamp when it comes on their letters.

These vintage 13-cent stamps can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are unused with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.
